Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 22, 2026

Tally is a gentle budget planner. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and store it, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it plain and clear.

In short: on Tally Free your budget stays on your device and we never see it. If you choose Tally Sync, we store your budget in your account. We don’t sell your information, and Tally has no ads.

1. Who we are

“Tally”, “we” and “us” mean the team behind the Tally budget planner. We are the controller of the personal information described here. You can reach us any time at [email protected].

2. What we collect

InformationWhenWhy
Budget data (income, spending, categories, savings jars, notes, currency choice)On Tally Free this stays on your device only. With Tally Sync it is also saved to your account. To show your budget and, with Sync, keep it safe and available on your other devices.
Email address and passwordWhen you create an account for Tally Sync.To log you in and keep your account secure. Your password is stored in a protected (hashed) form; we cannot read it.
CountryWhen you sign up, and from time to time when you log in. We work it out from your network connection. To do this, your network address is sent to a location lookup service, which returns only the country. We save only the country, not your exact location or IP address. To send relevant updates and to follow the rules that apply where you live.
Email preferences and agreement recordWhen you sign up.To remember whether you said yes to tips and updates, and when you agreed to our Terms and this policy.
Plan and payment status (plan, start and end dates, payment reference, amount and currency)When you pay for Tally Sync.To switch on your plan, confirm your payment, and help you if something goes wrong.
Messages you send usWhen you email support. To reply and help you.

Payment details. Payments are handled by trusted, secure third-party payment providers. Your card or bank details go directly to them. Tally never sees or stores your full card number, security code or bank login. To process your payment, we share your email address and an account ID with the payment provider. Because Tally Sync renews automatically, the provider securely keeps your payment method so it can charge renewals until you cancel.

On your device. Tally saves your budget and settings in your browser’s local storage so the app works, including offline. This is not used for advertising or tracking. Clearing your browser data on Tally Free also clears your budget from that device.

We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not use your budget data for advertising.

3. How we use your information

Where the law asks for a legal basis, we rely on: providing the service you asked for (contract), your consent (for marketing emails), our legitimate interests in running and securing Tally, and our legal obligations.

4. Who we share it with

We don’t sell your personal information, and we don’t share it for advertising. We share it only with:

Other people cannot see your budget.

5. Where we store it and how we protect it

Account and Sync data is stored with our cloud providers, which may process data in countries other than your own. Where we transfer information internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards required by law. We protect your information with encryption in transit (HTTPS), access controls and per-account data separation. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a strong, private password.

6. How long we keep it

7. Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR, UK GDPR or California privacy law), you may have the right to:

To use any of these rights, email [email protected] from the address on your account. We will reply within 30 days. We will never treat you differently for using your rights.

8. Children

Tally is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the date at the top, and for important changes we will let you know in the app or by email.
